How to compress video files
- 01
Select files
Select or drop one or more videos.
- 02
Choose quality and output format
Choose higher quality, balanced or smaller size; keep the original resolution or limit it to 1080p or 720p. Select a codec and container supported by your device. Defaults are balanced quality, original resolution, H.264 and MP4.
- 03
Download results
Download each result, or save the batch as a ZIP.
Common questions
How do the quality settings control size?
Higher quality, balanced and smaller file target 80%, 60% and 40% of each source video's average bitrate. Processing reads the full primary video track to measure this rate, excluding audio and container overhead. Lower resolutions reduce the target further in proportion to the pixel count. These are video bitrate targets, not file-size ratios.
Will the compressed video always be smaller?
Not always. The encoder's actual output can differ from the bitrate target, and audio tracks and container overhead also take up space. Compatible original audio tracks are copied. Results show the original and exported sizes; if the file did not shrink, try a smaller-size setting or lower resolution. Compression can reduce picture quality; lossless results, fixed reduction ratios and exact file sizes are not guaranteed.
Which codecs and containers can I choose?
H.264, H.265, VP9 and AV1 availability depends on your device's actual encoding support. MP4 supports these four choices, MOV supports H.264 or H.265, and WebM supports VP9 or AV1. All original audio tracks are retained; if that is not possible, the file reports an error and the batch continues. Your target player also needs to support the selected video and audio codecs.
Can I compress an MKV that cannot play in the preview?
You can try. Compression does not depend on video preview playback: the file must be readable, its source video decodable, and the selected output encodable. The 500 MiB per-file limit still applies; no extra video is transcoded for preview.
Are my videos uploaded?
No. Videos are processed in your browser without registration. Reloading or closing the page clears your current files and results.
Which formats and file sizes are supported?
Readable containers include MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV; processing depends on your browser and device's support for the file's codecs. The limit is 500 MiB per file and 1 GiB of source files per batch. Process large files in smaller batches.
